About Our Process
The request form is open for a two-week period once a month. We spend the other two weeks of the month considering requests, distributing funds, and fundraising. The status of the form is listed above.- Requests are considered by a group of 3-6 students. All students considering requests are dedicated to redistributing wealth, practicing empathy, community care, and challenging systems that perpetuate inequality.
- One member of our team is responsible for anonymizing all requests. This person is also responsible for distributing the money. This is the only person who knows the names attached to to the request. They will not be considering whether or not a request is met so that the evaluation process is completely anonymous.
- We currently accept need requests from Bowdoin students, staff, and close family and friends. This is to assure that we will have enough funds and resources to fulfill initial requests.
- We prioritize essential needs, such as food, water, shelter (rent payments), and medical care and bills but are hoping to meet a wide range of needs beyond the most essential.
- We hope to open up this project to a wider array of needs, and we look forward to redefining what ‘need’ means as we expand our capacity. In particular, we hope to grow to facilitate exchange of other resources beyond money.
- We acknowledge that our system is imperfect and there will always be more need to meet. We are committed to self-reflection and continual improvement of our processes. Please submit to our feedback form if you have any thoughts or questions!
